I'm just starting to dip my toe in professional waters, but I have a couple of questions:
Fee - What would be a reasonable fee for doing natal charts? I know that the local market has to be taken into account. I am starting with just natal since I am most comfortable right now, but horary and electional will be coming eventually. I'm just looking for a reasonable average. Also, the market where I live is relatively active, but of course there are no traditional astrologers. In other words, how much is too much, and how little is too little?
Interps - I have made many many interps for friends and family. However I don't know if I am being too brief. I do a small paragraph for each of the houses and a section detailing all of the chart points and so on. It averages around 4 pages at 12 point type. I stay away from things dealing with death since I think the current culture has trouble dealing with it - the exception is that I will deal with things that the person needs to be aware of such as diseases and accidents and so on. I won't figure out length of life though. In my interps I feel like I am being too brief for some reason. Perhaps it's just my writing style since I feel like I am covering the main points that need to be covered.
How do you do the consultation with someone generally? I am not asking chart techniques - more like do usually deal with people making future appointments, do deal with "walk-ins" and how do you deal with that? I would assume you would try to find out of there is something in particular they want to know about.
Sorry for all the questions! |

You will need to use some investigational skills. Find out what other Astrologers are asking around you and for what services. Most people dont know the differences between the different fields of Astrology so the people coming to you wil be the same people going to others who dont practice Tradtional. They wont understand why your prices are different then others. THen you need to ask yourself, is your quality better than theres? Are they ripping people off? Once you have a mean price you can then judge how much your time is worth and add that onto the price. I suggest starting lower and working your way up once you gain more clients.
If you think your interpretations are too short, expand upon them. Keep in mind that most Traditional interpretations are no more then 1-2 sentences long. Modern interpretations can be paragraphs long simply for Sun in Aries! So if you think its too short its probably because you are using the traditional system. The main thing is that you answer the questions people purpose to you. Most dont care about the fluff. They will pick 1 or 2 things out of a paragraph and be like "thats exaclty me!".
As for consultations, prepare everything beforehand. I dont see how anyone can just stop into an Astrologer off the street and get a reading. Being an Astrologer takes skill, and the time you invest in each reading understanding it, the greater skill you have. Now if the question is specific such as "What kind of women should I date", you can easily pinpoint your answer but other than that, prepare all beforehand. Get their information on the phone.
Hope that helps you, sorry for the delay! _________________ http://antiquus.50webs.com/ |

For this question would you look at 5th or 7th house?....Or would you look at Venus?
And what if they should ask 'When' which is more likely to be the case ...I suppose it would be down to transits or progressions or solar returns?

7th. The 7th will lead to the goal at hand which is the long term matching of you and the individual you connect with most. Ive seen a few cases where if your Ascendant is the Descendant of your partner that the match is fairly strong. The type of person is determined by the Lord of hte 7th.

Not necessarily, certainly predictive charts can show people whos influence comes into your life but the TYPE of individual you are most attracted to is spoken through your Nativity. _________________ http://antiquus.50webs.com/ |

I think everyone will agree with that Aaron. But what I'd like to ask is, once you have birth data, what is it you personally first look for in a consultation chart before that is, the client asks any specific questions? |

For the most part I find that people don't even know that you can be specific. Most of the time people just say "Oh do me!". If I ask them what they want to know, they usually say "everything".
So far what I do is general interp going house to house. I title each section with things like "children" which would be the 5th house. I try to stay away from technical words as much as possible. |
