Greetings to one and all,
In a discussion with a friend, we wondered what would happen in terms of Astrological influences if all planets in the solar system (including the Moon), apart from the Sun and Earth were to suddenly disappear. How would this effect human life? Do any of you have an hypothesis on this subject?
Would this mean humans would have a more balanced or unbalanced life? How would it affect the Earth?
I am looking forward in hearing what you have to say about this
Thy Own Self,

I don't think it would have serious effects. (Oh no! I can't talk any more because mercury exploded!)
If anything, it would just cause the gravitational pull on the earth to change a bit, and if the lack of planets, or addition to them, caused the earth to shift even a tiny bit away from or near the sun, we would either freeze or burn to death. The Earth right now is in just the right spot, that's why life can be supported.
Astrologicaly, I don't think much would occur, yet physicaly, we might die at worst. |

Chaldean,
What is your view on how the Planets influence us? Do you believe it is the physical Planet which has the Astrological influence on us? _________________ http://antiquus.50webs.com/ |

| Not realy, It's probably the tiny gravitaional pull they have on us, somewhat like the pull the moon has on the oceans. |

Im curious how you believe Astrology works? Almost all Ive ever read considers the physical Planetary bodies to be the actual cause of Astrological phenomenon. So im very interested to hear your opinion on this matter _________________ http://antiquus.50webs.com/ |

Hmmm. Personaly, I don't think it's the accual planets that cause things to happen. Likely, there's probably some unnoticable influence they project. Such as gravitational pull. It does make some sense. When someone is born, it's not so much the planets that we are concerned with, but their positions. So perhaps some sort of projection is going on, where the main importance of planets is where they are projecting from, their positions. The physical planets themselves I don't think do much, yet it's more something they cause, such as gravity or light, that is important.
Just what I think, probably off 8) |

Thats interesting. Ive never heard that before. The main idea behind all the Planets is that they are based after the Sun and Moon, both of which have such a major influence on life, growth & etc. on the earth. And its regarded that the other Astrological bodies follow suit with this. _________________ http://antiquus.50webs.com/ |

I actually look at it this way:
I don't think the actual planets are influencing us either. There can only be two physical ways a planet can influence another planet - magnetic and gravitational. Except for the Sun and Moon, there is almost no gravitational influence from the planets. In fact, I get more gravitatational influence from the desk on which my laptop sits than from Mars.
Even IF there was a gravitational influence, then how can Mars have a different effect than Venus? Why would Mars' gravity represent aggression and Venus' love? Why would Saturn's gravity cause stagnation?
That being said, I think there are two influences happening, but neither are scientific at all.
1. A basic tennent of Hermeticism is that everything has a spiritual ally. The planets embody a particular type of spirit which affects us. This brings us to...
2. Astrology is a system designed by people to read signs that we invented as a type of oracle. This is similar to how any divination works. No one says a Tarot card causes something to happen - it is just our interpretation of an event.
So I think that astrology is a man-made interpretation of spiritual influences.
I have noticed that many astrologers dig themselves in a hole when talking to astronomers. Granted most astronomers will never take astrology seriously, but to tell an astronomer, or any scientist, that magnetism, gravity, or any other physical thing is the cause, then that means the scientist can measure it. If the scientist can see that the measurement is not there or negligible, then what can you say?
Now to use the "magic" excuse isn't much easier, but it gives more wiggle room. Any of us who have been around astrology enough can see that there are effects there.
On the other hand I usually just keep my mouth shut on the matter. |
